ACC Founder, Fabio A. Andrade, Heads to Washington D.C. to Support the Dignity Act

Americas Community Center heading to Washington, DC

As always, since the beginning of Americas Community Center (ACC), Fabio A. Andrade and all board members—past and present—have worked tirelessly to support our communities at the local, state, and federal levels. This commitment continues today as Fabio travels to Washington, D.C. to support Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar and the push for the Dignity Act.

This bill is urgently needed to provide relief and reward to immigrants who are here for the right reasons—those who have built lives, contributed to the economy, and upheld the values of this country.

Looking back, ACC was instrumental in advocating for political asylum for both Colombian and Venezuelan immigrants. Today, we continue that advocacy by supporting legislation that recognizes the dignity of all who call the U.S. home.

👉 We call on all Congressional and Senate leaders to support the Dignity Act as proposed.

Fabio’s visit reinforces our center’s commitment to amplifying the voices of immigrants, supporting sound policy, and working toward a future built on justice, dignity, and opportunity.

About the press conference:

The press conference scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025 is going to unveil the finalized version of the DIGNITY Act — a bipartisan immigration bill that aims to secure the border, strengthen enforcement, and provide an earned path to legal status for long-term undocumented immigrants.

This legislation represents a historic and humane step toward fixing our immigration system — balancing security with compassion, and addressing the needs of millions of families living in the shadows.

The version being unveiled builds on the original proposal introduced in 2023. We look forward to learning the latest updates and will be sharing more details with our community following tomorrow’s press conference.

Stay tuned — this could be a pivotal moment for immigrant communities across the country.

What was the Dignity Act (2023)?

The Dignity Act of 2023 (H.R. 3599), introduced by Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX), is the first bipartisan immigration bill in over a decade. It aims to secure the border, restore law and order, and provide a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants who have been in the U.S. long-term and have built lives here.

Key Points of the Dignity Act:

✅ Secures the Border
• Increases resources for Border Patrol
• Modernizes technology and infrastructure
• Targets cartels and human trafficking networks

✅ Creates a 7-Year “Dignity Program”
• For undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. for more than 5 years
• Must pass a criminal background check
• Pay back taxes and an annual $5,000 restitution fee
• No access to federal benefits during this period
• Must work, obey the law, and contribute to the economy
• At the end of 7 years, participants receive legal status (not citizenship)

✅ Optional 5-Year “Redemption Program”
• Offers a pathway to permanent residency and eventual citizenship
• Requires additional community service and English language proficiency
• Continued clean criminal record

✅ Protects Dreamers and Farmworkers
• Streamlines a path to legal status for DACA recipients and essential agricultural workers

✅ Mandatory E-Verify and Asylum Reform
• All employers must use E-Verify to ensure legal employment
• Fixes backlog in the asylum system and raises the bar for claims
